The Editor's Bit

It’s October, so I wanted something relating to Halloween on the cover, but what? I toyed with the idea of people in fancy dress at parties I went to in the past, but I did that last year. In need of inspiration, I went to the supermarket to get some beers and found what I was looking for on the way; all it needed was pumpkins, bats and a skull! So, for this month’s Cover Competition, where did I take the photo? If you know, tell me! No prizes, but you’ll receive an Honourable Mention in the next Stun if you get it right.

Nobody gave me a correct answer for last month’s Cover Competition, so no Honourable Mentions this time. It was the Doelen Hotel, taken from Kloveniersburgwal.

I didn’t have much time to deliver the last Stun around the bars because I was going to England for the funeral of my sister Brenda, who passed away in August. Ilze and Gareth came to my aid by taking a big bag of Stuns around bars in the Red Light District. They took plenty of photos during their pub crawl and you can see some of them on pages 16 & 17.

While I was in England, my niece Tish, who I hadn’t seen for 40 years, arrived from New Zealand. A week later, she was in Amsterdam, so we met up with Ans (my sister-in-law, her aunt) for a meal in Molly Malone’s before I took her on a guided tour of my favourite bars and other sights in the Red Light District.

While I was propping up the bar in Molly’s a few days later, Mairead invited me to visit her at work at the Homeland Brewery to take a few photos and sample their ales. Now there’s an offer I can’t refuse!

All of our usual stuff is here, plus a few extra jokes on page 23, so enjoy your Stun.
