The Editor's Bit

There’s no Cover Competition this month; I decided to go with the New Year’s fireworks and drone show over the IJ, which took place two days later than planned because it was too windy on New Year’s Eve.
For last month’s Cover Competition, we have to give the Honourable Mention to Brian Krijger, who knew straight away that it was located on the Jodenbreestraat. He just happened to be working in the first bar I delivered the last Stun to (De Blauwe Druif) and lives just around the corner from where the artwork, Zuildragende Schildpad, is located.

Before I go any further and risk running out of space, Janice from Café Oporto is now a granny; her daughter Zoe gave birth to little Nelly on Monday 2nd January.

Talking of births, this October will see the 30th anniversary of the Amsterdam Stun making its first appearance in local bars, so I’ll be milking this opportunity as much as possible. I’m still in contact with most of the people who were in that very first edition, so I hope those that are still with us can get here in October, but where’s Mandy? If any of my old orange picking friends read this, come on over for the party because it’s also close to the 40th anniversary of the year I didn’t go to Nafplion!

After hearing that the New York Times was slammed for publishing a swastika-shaped crossword, one of our readers thought last month’s Stun Crossword looked a bit dodgy. Luckily, our unintentional swastika faces the opposite way to the Nazi Hakenkreuz, but I’ll keep an eye out for that sort of thing in future.

Apologies for not having any photos from our friends in Hotel Torenzicht this month but all of our usual stuff is here so enjoy your Stun!
