The Editor's Bit
Last month’s Cover Competition seems to have left everybody stumped, which surprised me because just like March’s cover, it was next to a bus stop close to an attraction that’s popular with locals and tourists alike. I suppose most people are focussed on getting to (and unfocussed on the way back from) the IJ brewery in the windmill to look up and notice the artwork Mbulu Ngulu above an advertising column at the top of Oostenburgergracht by the Czaar Peterstraat.
With that in mind, for this month’s Cover Competition, all I want you to do is tell me where I took that photo. Although I’ve included a lot of blue sky in the photo again, I’ll give you a few clues this time: the artwork is visible from multiple trams, night buses, a lot of canal cruises, and it’s less than 500m from Dam Square. There’s an Honourable Mention for the first person with the correct answer. Contact details are on page 2 or you can tell me in person if you see me in a bar, in which case, tell me to write it down and take a photo so that I don’t forget.
At the end of this month, we’ll find out who has come top of the Amsterdam Stun Premier Predictions League 2022/23 and takes home the prize of 4 x €15 vouchers for food &/or drink from our friends at Coco’s Outback. Things are really tight at the top of the table and the leader has been changing weekly, so anybody could still win. The latest league table in on page 21, next to Being Frank on Football!
It was Kings Day last month and I was out and about with my camera, so I took a lot of photos; there are six pages of them, starting in the centre pages.
Three of those pages are from the party in Café Oporto, where Lizzie and Jen, who’d just finished her shift, got me to pose with them.
Bumped into Phil while I was out day drinking recently and although I knew he hadn’t been in the Stun for a while, I didn’t realise it was almost two years ago! Time flies when you’re having fun and it doesn’t feel like that long ago that Phil was DJ at my 50th birthday party, but this month, I start receiving my Dutch state retirement pension.
Don’t panic! I can’t afford to retire, so I’ll be doing my best to continue making the Stun for as long as I can, and I’m hoping that’s going to be a long time. All of our usual stuff is here, so enjoy your May edition of the Stun.
