The Editor's Bit

It was good to see renewed interest in our Cover Competition last month; a lot of people came up with suggestions, in person in a bar and via WhatsApp, but the first correct answer came by email. Steve Currie gets the Honourable Mention for knowing that the turret is on top of the art’otel on the corner of Martelaarsgracht and Prins Hendrikkade.

The 10x zoom on my little Lumix camera has made it much easier to take photos in keeping with the Look Up theme I’ve had going for a while, so there’s another torentje on this month’s cover for you to identify.

Where is it? If you know, tell me! Contact details are on page two, or you can tell me in person if you meet me in a bar, but if that’s the case, make sure I write it down because I can be a bit forgetful. The first person with the correct answer will get an Honourable Mention in this column next month.

I’ve lived in this country for so long, I didn’t know what Torentje was in English, so I decided to go full-on clog and have applied for Dutch citizenship. When I left the Stadsloket, I noticed the turret (I Googled torentje) that’s on this cover for the first time so I whipped out my camera and took the shot. That’s a clue, if anybody actually reads this.

Even after living over half of my lifetime in Amsterdam, I’m still discovering little gems I’ve never seen before, or have sprung up in the meantime, so there will always be something for me to put on the cover. I’m going to stick with Torentjes for a while, so keep looking up if you want an Honourable Mention.
