The Editor's Bit

Did you miss me? I decided to put health before wealth after struggling to deliver last November’s Stun while still recovering from Man Flu a heavy cold. I love going from bar to bar, but it’s no fun when it’s cold/wet outside, and I’m not getting any younger, so I took a break until the weather improved.

While I’ve been at home, I decided it was time to replace the computer that has been the Stun workhorse for the last 14 years, which meant new software to learn, unless I paid for an expensive subscription from Adobe. I’m a cheapskate so I went with Affinity, which is free, to put this Stun together. Is it any good? We’ll know when this Stun comes back from the printers.

A lot of the new apps I’m using have “AI” integration, that I’m doing my best to avoid using, but the one-click changes it made to this month’s cover was too hard to resist; it was that or go out in daylight and take more photos. Obviously, there's no Cover Competition this month; every man and his dog has taken a photo of that view or sent it on a postcard.

I returned to the social scene for Brian's 50th in Café Oporto (see page 14) where Josie took this one of me with Shaun and Paula.

Still at Brian's party, here's another one of me, because some people say I'm never in the Stun, with my good friends/neighbours/quiz team Sidd and Jen, and Colin, who's been a friend for donkey's years.

At Muriel’s 50th in Café Batavia (see pages 12 & 13), Rodney asked for a photo with me, and Jimmy the Gap wanted in too.

Things are getting exciting at the top of our Premier Predictions League. Unusually, three of the top four are friends pictured in this Stun and our football correspondent Frank is in fifth; it's not a fix! Promise!

Sadly, Jim Scrimgeour, our winner two years ago, passed away of natural causes in Portugal ahead of the Europa League match between his beloved Rangers and Porto.

All of our usual stuff is here, so enjoy your first Stun of 2026.
