The Editor's Bit

I’m getting too old for this s…! After Kings Day, I was too knackered to go out taking the last few photos needed to bring out a Stun at the beginning of May, so I decided to skip a month and concentrate on the June edition. It didn’t go to plan... I took a dive walking home and broke the thumb on my right hand, putting me out of action again.

Seven weeks later, I finally took those missing photos, so at long last, you can see the ones I took on Kings Day in this July Stun!

Apart from the ones on Page Three, most of my photos from Kings Day are on pages 10-13. but here's one of me and Skip in Excalibur.

I've known Skip for over 20 years and in all that time, we've never been in a photo together, so I'm glad he suggested this one.

After a very volatile season, Sid Raghava finished on top of the Amsterdam Stun Premier Predictions League 2025/2026, so he wins €60 vouchers for food and/or drink from our friends at Coco’s Outback. The final table is on page 17; how did you do?

The fact that we sometimes play in the same quiz team has nothing to do with Sid winning; a quarter of the contestants are friends of mine, and I was backing my old friend Shaun for the win. If you still don’t believe me, you’re welcome to audit the entries.

Did I say it's getting too much for me? I'm not going to do another Premier Predictions League because I can't guarantee that the Stun will still be going at the end of the season.

Talking of competitions, it's been a while since we had a Cover Competition, so do you know the location of the torentje on this month's cover? If you do, let me know (contact details on are page 2) and you could get an Honourable Mention in next Stun.

Looks like I'm committed to at least one more edition of the Amsterdam Stun, and not just because of the Cover Competition; it's my 70th birthday shortly, so there's a good chance I'll take loads of photos at my party. Check your Facebook Events to see if I've already invited you; if not, you can always ask me if you see me in a bar because I'm not going to reveal the location for all to see on this page.

I'm still haunted by memories of my 50th: I put an invite on the cover of the Stun to a party at my favourite bar at the time, Mister Coco's on Nieuwendijk, but the place closed down the day after the Stun hit the streets. We found another venue nearby, but it was too small for the bands we'd booked so we had a DJ instead. This time, it'll be whatever they put on the playlist, but they always play bangers!
